Week 46 : Busy Bee

I've been working my butt off at work, with crafts and painting.  I have a ton of pictures this week so please bare with me.  I promise it'll be worth it!
Firsts things first, I painted 6 squares this week.  I really love that my painted pile is so much bigger than the blank canvas pile!  I only have 6 green squares left to paint and then on to the blue ones.
Can't wait to see it finished!

I was at the Maker's Market last weekend and saw some new faces.  There were so many cool things there!  I got business cards for everyone, but over the past week I have misplaced all of them.  I did my best to find links online...I'll try to get all the links up ASAP.

Above pics are of Joan Krygsman http://stripedaardvark.com/.  I really liked her stuff and she is also one of the artist on display at the Art in the Workplace exhibit.  I bought some of her magnet tiles, I love them!!

The kitty above really reminds me of Carlucci.  Paula at Orange Octopus made him.

These little robots are from Heather at Needlings.  So Cute!

After the market we took my mom to Smokes....mmmmm!  Poutine!  If you haven't been there, GO!!

I also had a crafting date with 2 great gals!  I snapped some cool picks, got a pile of wicked vintage buttons for new rings and fabric for some cool pins!  Michelle's house is a crafter's wet dream!!

Then this week was the 7th opening for Art in the Work Place.  It was a bit scary but, also a crap load of fun!  Thanks to everyone who came out on a school night.  I really appreciate it!!

We couldn't resist this last one...it just needed to be licked and tickled!
Hehehe ;)

Nest week is going to kill me!  I have to work 53 hours from Monday to Saturday, but I will post something!

Until then...

Week 45: and still more quilting

Another 5 canvas squares finished this week.  I really love the patterns that I have picked for the blue and green panels.

I also managed to finish some new birch bark bird ornaments.  Each bag has 6 different bird silhouettes cut out of birch bark and tied with a ribbon.  These ornaments would be a beautiful addition to any Christmas tree.  They would also be great used as gift tags.  I took 7 bags with me to the St. Paul's holiday market and only returned with 1.  I'm so happy with the feed back from this weekend!

I can't wait For this coming Saturday.  From 10am to 4pm there will be over 40 vendors at Christ's Cathedral at 252 James Street North in Hamilton.  I really love the people who come out every year to support their local artisans.  I am so amazed at the creativity in our wonderful city!  I hope to see some familiar faces.

This coming week I will not be painting but crafting in order to get ready for Saturday...I will post some photos next Sunday, but I'll be back in 2 weeks with some more quilt squares.

Week 44 : Overwhelmed

This week I only managed to finish 3 tiny pieces.
At this rate I'll never have them all completed in time!
I have something like 40 pieces left and only 8 weeks to paint them.  I'll have to figure it out exactly, but now I'm panicking.  I can't come this far and not finish, but with all the holiday rush and the hours I've been working it's getting really difficult!

I did pick up the small canvases I ordered today so there should be no excuses this week...mini canvases as far as the eye can see!

Until next week...

Week 43: Quilting + Atilla

This week I finished 6 more panels for my large quilt piece.  I've completed the 3rd set and am beginning the 4th...green.  I'm so stoked to move away from everything orange and brown and get started on the cool patterns that I've picked for the green and blue sets.

Here are the first 3 sets...

I love laying all the small canvases on my floor and seeing how great they all fit together.  I can't wait to see it done!  I also can't believe that I only have 9 weeks left...YIKES!

Today I went with 2 of my gal pals to see the Atilla Richard Lukacs exhibit at the AGH.  If you aren't familiar with his paintings you should!!  He is amazing, and from Canada and super nice, (I know 'cause once I had the pleasure of meeting him).   He's a video of him at the opening... http://newscliptv.com/videos/lukacs.html.  I was so sad to discover that he was signing books there that night...

Anyway...

I tried to sneak a photo, but this is the best I could do with all the greasy security gaurds lurking about.  I had to keep my camera hidden in my purse! hahaha!!

I'm going to take Luther to see them and I'll bring my small camera to get a better shot!  I have to say that I am so very envious of this Salah gentleman, who has the extreme pleasure of owning all of these amazing works of art.

Until next week...

Week 42 : 3 Things I've Learned About Myself

1. I will never paint another picture of myself! I don't understand how other artists do it... I just can't look at myself for that long or resist the temptation to change all the things wrong with me. Maybe when I'm in my 80's and my face is a bit more interesting I will give it another shot, but I doubt it.

2.  My nose is a lot bigger than I thought it was!

3. I'm not really sure what colour my eyes are.  My boys seem to think they're green...I thought they are blue but in front of the mirror today I was convinced they're the colour of dirty lake water.

I thought since I've painted everyone else in my home that I should try painting myself... here's where I called it finished.

I'm really excited to get back to my quilt pieces.  Curry's had sold out of my little canvases and i have to now order them every week.

Until next week...

I Buried a Treasure...

I don't have a finished painting for this week...
We left for a weekend and when I got home today my Lover Cat was dead.

I am not a crazy cat lady.  I treat my pets like pets.  But this cat was different.  He was the best pet I have ever owned and I have owned a lot of animals.

He was so social.  He loved being around us.  He need to be in the company of us or his girlfriend Chairman Meow or driving our dog Seamus crazy.  He was awesome and only 3 and I love him so much.

We buried him at the RBG today...my heart is broken.
